There was a new update for Directx that was released on the 9th or 10th, I wou.d advise updating that. One thing that may be of interest here, alot of times, if you have installed a new software firewall, you have to set to to allow FFXI to accept incoming connections, if you have not done so, I had this problem after I installed a new firewall a couple days ago, I would also check that.
