im a 360 user and let me say a few things you need before you start:
xbox live silver or gold membership
at least 5 gigs oh hard drive space
visa or mastercard

the updates are feee so don't worry about that and to now on the expansion, the already comes with everything+ all the expansions (as well as ToAU) on one disk so when you pop it in to play(after you register the expansion), you get all the expansions but you still need to be a higher lvl to access the new areas
