I try to avoid all forms of armour and weapons unless im looking to make them for personal use or someones asked them of me. Consumables is definately the ideal market to aim for. So ingots, sheets, scales, theyre all your friends.
Darksteel is a great money maker especially if you learn the mining points in gusgen mines and just spend a few hours there you can easily work up a stack of these.
As for the levels, i thought it has to be lower than 95 due to my successes in crafting them so far. Im just confused when a mate said they are skilling on them after 89... maybe time to find some high level crafters on bahamut and ask them.  Blm 75 - One and only love!
