I say it's time to upgrade to a broadband connection. 56k is going the way of the dinosaurs.

                Re: Patch and Installation Time.

Just did a fresh install of POL, FFXI and all the expansions. That took about half an hour. It's the patching that took awhile. Even with my 12MBps cable connection, it took over 3hours. S-E probably has a limit on upload per connection to maintain stability I guess. But yes, why they don't release patches to be downloadable and backed up for future reinstalls is beyond me...it would save them a ton of bandwidth.

Have you run the benchmark? you will get very slow game play and have to turn all graphics down to a minimum, if it willa llow you to play it.

Oh for the love of god, have a clue about what you're saying.

                        FFXI minimum requirements
                        Operating System: Windows® 2000/XP/Vista
                        CPU: Intel® Pentium®III 800Mhz or faster processor
                        Memory: 128 MB RAM
                        Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce™ series with 32 MB or ATI® RADEON™ 9000 series
Sound Card: DirectX®8.1 compatible sound card
Hard Drive Space: 9.5 GB free hard disk space

That processor (which appears it could be a Thunderbird 2000+) is more then enough to run FFXI with everything turned on. The only questionable part is the video card because he didn't say what he had.

                          Re: Patch and Installation Time.

Sup guys, thought I'd post here for the following reason; the patch server is so freaking slow.

                          Specs:
                          Intel Core 2 Duo E4500
                          Nvidia Geforce 9600GT XXX
                          2GB RAM
Windows Server 2008 32bit(modified to work as a workstation extremely well)
                          250GB HDD

                          Internet connection:
                          16MB(1.6MB/s)

The thing is, I am trying out the FFXI EU trial to see if it's worth buying on the Xbox 360, I downloaded the 2gb client in around 30-40 minutes. That wasn't really hard, Crysis Warhead didn't take 9 hours.

World of Warcraft had this problem but this was due to it using torrent technology(the solution to this was patch mirrors)

I have to say, I'm looking forward to FFXI. I hope this doesn't make me look like i'm trolling at all because I'm an honest person and this shouldn't take 9(nearly ten now!) hours.
